PROMSA consolidates its leadership in the concrete market in Catalonia with the purchase of the HeidelbergCement business

The operation, aligned with the profitable and sustainable growth strategy, includes the acquisition of two concrete plants and two quarries.

Cementos Molins, through PROMSA, has reached an agreement to purchase the aggregates and concrete business in Catalonia from Hanson Hispania, a subsidiary of HeidelbergCement. The operation will consolidate the leadership of Cementos Molins and PROMSA in the concrete market in Catalonia, and will be a catalyst to support the development of the Barcelona metropolitan area with sustainable structural concrete solutions for homes and infrastructures.

The agreement includes two concrete plants in the Barcelona Free Zone and in Montcada i Reixac, as well as a quarry in Begues (Baix Llobregat) and another in Llinars (Vallès Oriental).

"This operation will allow Cementos Molins to reinforce its presence in Spain, and consolidate its leadership in sustainable concrete solutions in Catalonia," says Julio Rodríguez, CEO of Cementos Molins. "The strategic location of the plants and quarries, close to the Barcelona metropolitan area, responds to our commitment to offer more efficient and sustainable solutions," he adds.

The acquisition of the HeidelbergCement business will involve the integration of 41 employees and a turnover of approximately 18 million euros. The closing of the operation is scheduled for early 2022, and is subject to the approval of the regulatory authorities. Meanwhile, both companies will continue to operate independently until the completion of the acquisition process.

This is the fourth acquisition announced by Cementos Molins in 2021, after the takeover of Escofet, a benchmark in architectural concrete and urban spaces, the purchase of a white cement installation in Spain from the Çimsa group, and the purchase agreement for Calucem, the world's second largest producer of calcium aluminate cement (CAC).
